Seventy Ladue High School juniors and senior volunteered as counselors at Sixth Grade Camp this year. Counselors either worked the first session, from Sunday, Sept. 10 to Wednesday, Sept. 13 or second session, Tuesday, Sept. 12 to Friday, Sept. 15.

“[Sixth Grade Camp] was an amazing experience,” senior and counselor Riley Deutsch said. “I had so much fun doing a variety of activities and watching the sixth graders grow so much in only three days.”

The counselors worked in teams of two or three, overseeing approximately 10 sixth graders as they worked through team building games, enjoyed free time and participated in choice activities. Even though the counselors spent most of their time with campers, they did get some free time to decompress.

“Sixth Grade Camp is really fun,” senior and counselor Macey Goldstein said. “It’s definitely a lot of work, but it’s totally worth it to hang out with the sixth graders and the other counselors.”

In only three days, the students created many friendships. Although the counselors had to miss school, the general consensus was that the sixth Grade Camp experience was worth the make up

work.

“It was totally worth missing three days of school,” senior and counselor Jen Trau said.
